The Northwestern Triathlon Club began through the joint effort of Hugo Angelmar and Chris Lange in the spring of 2006 as they were each preparing for their first triathlon. Although Hugo graduated in June 2006, the two of them got the club setup in the hopes of spreading the sport of triathlon throughout the campus.
The club's inaugural meeting was held near the end of the academic year with five people present. From this meeting, the triathlon club was born! Chris and Hugo secured recognition from Northwestern as a club sport, formed a club charter, and recruited new members.
Since the first meeting, the club as grown exponentially. This process began with a 35th place finish in the men's division at collegiate nationals in 2007 and has progressed from there. Out team currently has over 60 active members and is one of the largest clubs on campus.
